Abstract
The authors deal with the performance and characteristics of reluctance machines used as self-excited generators. This mode of operation is ideal for utilizing renewable energy sources where the prime mover is a variable-speed prime mover, such as windmill or microhydel. The generator system results in a cheap, robust and reliable supply system for remote and isolated communities.
