Abstract
In seeking out case study enterprises to participate in a study of environmental innovation projects, it was observed that some seemed well prepared to proceed and others did not. In this paper a suitable state of readiness is characterized in terms of values, procedures and resources. An illustrative example of the concepts developed is provided. Based on initial interactions with fifteen enterprises, it is suggested a combination of values supports project initiation, whilst the identification of a business model where benefits may be a mix of economic, environmental and social considerations supports resource allocation. Requisite procedures depend on what can be done in-house and what needs to be done externally. Some ideas for survey instruments were developed in the course of the study.
