    Abstract

It seems appropriate in this author's response for Emotion, Space and Society that we begin with some reflections on the experience of reading the pieces so thoughtfully prepared by our 'critics.' Most remarkable to us are the very different affective stances adopted by our commentators and the emotional responses they called forth in us. So here's the question: how to respond? How to perform the self transformation that we ask of academics? How to open to the world, our critics, our supporters, and participate in the world-changing process of resubjectivation? We have here a wonderful opportunity offered by Deborah Thien and the journal to walk the walk and talk the talk of A Postcapitalist Politics. We have a set of responses from valued colleagues all of whom, we can safely say, are interested in thinking/creating/performing other worlds. So why not move forward from the questions at the end of the SD Collective piece and reinvest the labor that has been expended on reading, discussing (and writing!) the book by creating a "hybrid research collective" (to use Callon's term) in the space of this colloquy? If this is too much to ask, we invite you at the very least to play with imagining such a collective and see what transpires.
