    Abstract

![CDATA[Australian Rainfall and Runoff (ARR) revision Project 6 deals with losses for design flood estimation. This paper describes a pilot study for 10 rural catchments which were selected on the basis of having concurrent streamflow and pluviograph records and representing the diversity of hydroclimatic conditions from around Australia. The pilot study investigated the suitability of the conceptual loss models in both reproducing observed rainfall excess from historic events and for application in design flood estimation. The outcomes from the pilot study will inform the conceptual loss models and approach to be used for analysis of data from a wider data set which will ultimately underpin the new guidance on design losses in ARR.]]
