Painted River Project: Mehi Revisited: Bank Arts Museum Moree

Leo Robba (Designer)

Research output: Creative WorksExhibition

Abstract

The artworks created as part of the Moree’s Painted River Project field study included original paintings and drawings that directly emerged from journeys into the north-western districts of NSW. These creative explorations involved on-site investigations of the environment, with artists responding directly to what is observed and from in-depth discussions with scientific experts about the many pressures facing these fragile eco-systems. Upon returning to the studio, new artifacts were created building upon the place-based en plein air investigation. These studio works delve into reinterpreting light, offering a space for contemplation and a means of pushing the boundaries of en plein air traditions. The goal is to go beyond conventional landscape representations by developing the metaphorical potential based on first-hand interaction with the sites and to discover innovative ways of cultural expression.
