Abstract
This article dialogues with the work of various academics studying religion in Brazil. I begin by thinking along with Nina Rosas, who has been researching the Lagoinha megachurch and gender issues for years. I then discuss the work of Alberto Moreira, a scholar of the aesthetics of religion, who reflects on four themes: a) the epistemology of the sciences of religion, b) the aestheticisation of religion, c) the formation of subjectivities, and d) structural affinities. His reflections contribute to a deeper understanding of the subject - the complex structural connection between religion, aesthetics, and capitalism - as seen from another discipline, the sciences of religion. Finally, I turn to Taylor de Aguiar, who has been researching youth churches, especially Brasa Church, a young Baptist community in Porto Alegre. Aguiar brings us a reflection on how cool Christianity is adopted at Brasa Church. Reflecting on the work of these scholars in the light of my own research, I argue that religion in Brazil and its studies are heavily influenced by trends from the Global North.
