Abstract
![CDATA[In a recent paper examining what relations perceptions of discrimination held with various facets of academic motivation, Bodkin-Andrews, Craven, Marsh, & Martin (2005) rejected a three-factor conceptualisation of the theoretical structure of perceptions of discrimination in favour of a two-factor, personal/group discrimination discrepancy model. Although the results presented by Bodkin-Andrews et al., demonstrate a robust model, this paper will take the position that the removal of the institutional perceived discrimination factor from analysis may have resulted in a loss of information essential to understanding students’ experiences of being targeted with discrimination within the educational setting. Specifically, drawing from Bodkin-Andrews et al.’s data set, this paper shall test a one-factor congeneric model assessing students’ experiences of discrimination within the school environment (i.e., an institutional discrimination factor). Additionally, what relations experiences of school discrimination may have with a multi-dimensional model of student academic motivation (Martin, 2004) will also be assessed.]]
