Abstract
The bourgeoisie has torn apart the many feudal ties that bound men to the “natural superiors”, and left no other bond between man and man than naked interest, than callous cash payment … The bourgeoisie has stripped of its halo every occupation hitherto honoured and looked up to with reverent awe … In place of exploitation veiled by religious and political illusions, it has put open, shameless, direct, naked exploitation (Marx and Engels 2012, as cited in Berman 1988, 106).
