Abstract

This chapter looks at the concept of performance management and how it has been interpreted in organisations responsible for delivering healthcare infrastructure. The performance-based building concept assesses the quality of a building in terms of how well it meets user requirements. Increasingly, public-private partnerships, for example private finance initiative (PFI), Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) transfer responsibility to private sector partners to maintain the performance of the infrastructure and to supply support services such as facilities management (FM).
