    Abstract

Luxury can be a matter of status, prodigality or decadence. It depends where you are standing at the time. In this lavish exhibition five leading Australian photomedia artists explore the fabrics, costumes, jewellery and tableware of conspicuous consumption and absolute power. Sumptuary includes Alexia Sinclair's long awaited 'Royal Dozen' (majestic men who complement the succesful 'Regal Twelve' shown at ACP in 2008). Robyn Stacey's works focus, in exquisite detail, on the crockery and glassware imported from Europe by the early settlers of Australia, while Garth Knight's miraculous images transform the jewellery of the Parisian craftsman Lorenz Baumer into gigantic fantasy creatures.
