Abstract

![CDATA[Physical activity is increasingly recognised as a means to prevent and manage a range of health conditions. Overwhelming evidence exists that participation in physical activity is beneficial to both physical and psychological health and wellbeing. In particular, graded health benefits have been shown for physical activity and lowered risk of many non-communicable diseases including coronary heart. disease, type-2 diabetes, some forms of cancer, and obesity. In addition, physical activity participation can improve quality of life and prevent and/or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression, anxiety, stress, chronic obstructive respiratory disease, osteoporosis, and hypertension. Yet, despite this evidence, large and growing proportions of people in countries across the world do not participate in physical activity to levels that will afford them such benefits. This significant public health concern requires innovative approaches to overcome the challenges in improving health.]]
