Abstract
This research is underpinned by the idea that social and cultural experiences are invaluable to the process of language and literacy teaching and learning, and the aim of this project was to support teachers in recognising and building on the existing language understandings, skills and experiences of their students, and in leveraging students' skills and experiences for studying English in school.
