Abstract

Platymantis vitiana is an endangered anuran found only on four small outer islands in Fiji including Viwa, Taveuni, Gau, and Ovalau. On Viwa Island (a 60-ha island, 30 km NE of Suva and 0.95 km from mainland Viti Levu, Fiji), P. vitiana shares its natural habitat with invasive Bufo marinus. Bufo marinus is a prolific breeder while P. vitiana is a seasonal breeder (Narayan et al. 2010 Gen Comp. Endocrinol. 166:172-179).
