N2 - While mobile media, such as low-cost mobiles, smartphones, tablets, and mobile Internet, are being taken up widely around the globe, we have little understanding about their implications for media geographies. In this paper, we take up the question of mobile media geographies via a case study of the 2012 Mexican election - and the student movement called #yosoy132. In this paper, we examine the political and cultural stakes of online and mobile media #yosoy132 entails, arguing for the need to appreciate the specific histories of politics, culture, and technology in which mobile screens unfold in Mexico and its diasporic communities.
