N2 - In the 2019 local elections in Turkey, the main opposition party CHP (Republican People’s Party) won the elections in Istanbul—twice. The first election, held in March, was annulled upon the objection of President Erdoğan and his party, the AKP (Justice and Development Party). Yet, after the second vote in June, CHP’s Ekrem İmamoğlu was again elected as mayor of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality by a landslide.
