Abstract
Lung cancer is the major cause of cancer death globally. About 85% of instances of lung cancer, the most common cause of cancer, are non–small cell lung cancer related. Traditional treatments, which include chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, often produce less-than-desired outcomes because of systematic toxicity, drug resistance, and lack of tumor selectivity. The recent past has seen great promise for nanotechnology to solve such problems; among them, polymeric nanoparticles have attracted a lot of attention since they can safely provide targeted delivery and have fewer side effects. This review is intended to elucidate the potential of polymeric nanoparticles in transforming lung cancer therapy. Ongoing clinical trials using polymeric nanoparticles provide confidence regarding the potential safety and efficacy of polymeric nanoparticles in lung cancer treatment. This review highlights the current state of the use of polymeric nanoparticles in lung cancer, identifying opportunities for further improvements in polymeric nanoparticles design and utilization for targeting lung cancer.
