N2 - Animal welfare is one of the targets in emergency response arrangements. This report outlines the evolution in structures and processes put in place for animal rescue, triage, treatment and return in South Australia. These arrangements are integral to the State Emergency Management Plan (Government of South Australia, 2012), and outlines how management of animals in emergencies impacts on the preservation of human life (Thompson 2012). This paper is a description of the current in-field state of this emerging discipline.
