    Abstract

![CDATA[Collective biography is a research strategy that is inspired by Frigga Haug's (1987) memory-work. Like Haug and her colleagues, the collective biography groups I have been part of have worked with memories to generate new insights into the processes through which we are subjected. Similarly, the memories are generated by a group of scholars working together on a particular topic. In Female sexualization: A collective work of memory (1987), Haug and her colleagues worked on the topic of the body. My own collective biography groups have analyzed our embodiment in academic workplaces, but also topics such as becoming schoolgirls, reading fiction, the feminist subject, reflexivity, and power (Davies & Gannon, 2006). One of the reasons we have chosen to name our process differently from Haug and her colleagues is that our emphasis is different in several significant ways.]]
