    Abstract

During the past two decades, nanocomposites have emerged as a new class of materials that have attracted considerable interest in their scientific development and engineering applications. Nanostructures generated through the introduction of discrete nanoscale fillers of different structural, chemical, and physical properties into a continuous solid matrix (e.g. metal, ceramics, or polymer) represent radical alternatives to the structure oif conventional particle-reinforced composites. Such structural features, together with the unique properties of nanoparticles, lead to many new phenomena, exceptional properties and promising applications. In the past, many nanocomposites have been developed, some of which are now commercially available.
