Abstract

This paper presents the preliminary FE analyses on the seismic behaviour of CFST column to RBS composite beam connections with through diaphragm using ANSYS. Suitable dimensions of connection are proposed firstly by analysing joint failure modes, and then parametric analyses are carried out. Four basic parameters could affect the behaviour of connections, they are, the beam steel strength; the beam section configuration; axial load levels and the slab thickness. The results reveal that the proposed dimensions of connection are rational and connections can suffer from beam failure mode or mixed failure mode. In addition, the parametric analysis shows that the steel beam strength, beam height and slab thickness affect the failure mode of the composite joint significantly, and the axial load level on the CFST column has a moderate influence on the behaviour of joints with mixed failure mode.
