Abstract

Isotope liver scanning is an accurate technique for detecting liver metastases from large bowel cancer. In (his retrospective study of patients who had a resection for bowel cancer, the accuracy of liver scanning was 95%. However, the scan accuracy as defined by median survival time was insufficient to detect liver metastases missed by the surgeon at operation and did not alter the clinicopathological stage of the patient's disease.
