Abstract

Background: Circulating tumour cells (CTCs) have prognostic and predictive utility in metastatic colorectal cancer. Their detection and utility in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) is unclear. There is increasing evidence that the clinical effect of cancer treatment is dependent on host conditions such as haemoglobin (Hb), platelet (Plt), neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and inflammatory markers.
