Abstract

After reading this chapter, readers will be able to: explain the development of primary health care and health promotion in the context of changing health and illness patterns and the determinants of health at individual, society and community levels -- understand concepts of health promotion models and theories and their use at different organisational levels -- describe underlying reasons for the development of health promotion programs at global, national and local levels -- analyse the use of models and theories in health promotion.
