    Abstract

The teachers we profile in this book achieve this 'purposeful movement' based on a set of pedagogies which the book will discuss in some detail, especially in Chapters 8-12. It is important to note that the impact of these teachers is connected to this pedagogy, for example to the engaging messages (Chapter 8) which they relay in specific contexts to specific students. The Fair Go teachers 'move' their groups of students using informed planning and classroom-based strategic thinking. As a group of people, as Chapters 5 and 6 show, they are different from each other and they have been formed from a range of different experiences. Nevertheless, collectively, they possess certain professional qualities we believe it is important to discuss before moving on to consider their pedagogies" and that discussion is the aim of this chapter.
