Research output: Chapter in Book / Conference PaperChapter

Abstract

This chapter investigates the connections between health and social care professionals’ identity and measures of patient experience to clarify: implications for health and social care professions and their organizations; and gaps in the current research. It discusses two key concepts: the ways that identity can be conceived (e.g. professional identity, team identity and digital identity); and measures to report patient experience (e.g. patient reported outcome measures, patient reported experience measures, and quality of life measures). The recent policy drive for integrated health and social care systems highlights the importance of team identity, but this research remains in its infancy, particularly in relation to patient experience. Patient experience, whether quality of life, outcome or experience-related, is central to day-to-day clinical and social care practice. Furthermore, it is gathering increasing attention, particularly within the sphere of value-based healthcare.
