Abstract
This chapter provides a human rights perspective on critical social work. It argues that the concept of human rights, though highly contested and problematic in many ways, makes any important contribution to critical social work and integrates with a range of critical theory and practice paradigms. Specifically, the chapter explores the commitment of social work to human rights, the place of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, the contestation that exists in seeking common human rights principals and the synergies between critical social work and human rights.
