    Abstract

    The article discusses the following situation in some detail : An 84-year-old Fijian–Indian woman presented with new onset right sciatica. There was no recent history of trauma or infection. Her medical background included osteoporosis, superficial Pseudomonas wound infection after a successful decompression surgery for lumbar canal stenoses 1 year earlier, urinary stress incontinence, a hypertensive intracerebral haemorrhage at the age of 54 years with no residual neurological deficit, and ischaemic heart disease.
