Abstract

Exciting writing can result from disregarding some widely held ideas about genre and by mixing different literary genres. To explore this, I have chosen to talk about my poem 'The Child'. 'The Child' was inspired by stories of child disappearance that I had read about in the newspapers, particularly those of Madeleine McCann in the UK and William Tyrrell in Australia. Like many people, I have been perplexed by the enigma of these disappearances, wondering whether these mysteries will ever be resolved.
