Abstract
This chapter examines the conceptual, theoretical, and practical links between quality of life and wellness tourism. It considers how quality of life might be achieved in practice through wellness tourism with its focus on relaxation and r revitalization of the body, mind, and spirit. Consideration is given to how our knowledge of this sector should be advanced through multidisciplinary understandings of the tourism-health-quality of life nexus, the disciplines that need to inform policy and practices. It asks how the possibilities, the problems, and the paradoxes of wellness tourism might be researched and addressed by the industry, if quality of life benefits are to be genuinely achieved. It examines links to the wellbeing of the local community as well as the visitors as an essential component of wellness tourism.
