Abstract
The conventional story is that queer criminology is populated by criminolo-gists with queer interests, and that scholars draw upon criminological knowl-edge on one hand, and queer theory" alleged to be couched within thehumanities" on the other. Taking Heather Love's lead that queer theory'sgenealogy spreads into twentieth century deviance studies, this articleexamines the elided and/or refused histories between deviance studies andqueer criminological thought. Queer criminology has largely elided and/orrefused the history, purchase, and pitfalls of deviance studies. I account forthese elisions and/or refusals and consider the ways in which returning andre-reading these lost, forgotten, and/or ignored histories and insights canprovide queer criminological possibilities contemporarily.
