    Abstract

The contributions to this collection interrogate the often tense intersections of religious belief systems and queer subjects, that is, sexual and gender minorities as well as LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex) politics broadly (Valentine and Waite 2012). In particular, the authors explore how tensions of religion and non-heteronormativity play out in complex and sometimes competing ways in the lives of queer people of faith, and also amongst families, congregation and communities. Representing a broad range of disciplinary positions, the contributions examine a diversity of beliefs, churches and personal and communal outcomes. Indeed, scholarship about social, cultural and religious change reaches across sociology, history, anthropology, human geography, philosophy and literature, as well as theology and interdisciplinary studies in religion and belief systems.
