Abstract

Today, in our materialistic societies it is difficult to comprehend the meaning of mysticism and magic, something which in many traditional cultures coexists naturally with patterns of everyday life. And yet, along with the growing recognition of meditation in preventing stress related disorders, and as biofeedback research verifies the connection between the brain and the autonomic functions of the body, it has become useful to distinguish the existence of two realities. One we seem to agree upon for practical purposes and the other beyond the ordinary level of awareness, often referred to as a new or altered awareness.
