    Abstract

Research has identified certain characteristics of good teachers. Among these characteristics or ingredients are the pedagogical repertoires that act as recipes for success. In recent times teachers are being assessed against a set of standards. For example, in Australia they have been produced by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) which is the national accreditation body created to ensure national consistency. Is it possible to capture the essence of a great teacher through the use of a standards framework? This presentation will consider this question as well as dip into some of the available wonderfully rich recipes that have been internationally flavoured by the mathematics education research community.
