Abstract

As he so vividly illustrates in his new book (Massy, 2017). Charles Massy not only gets it but does it. He understands that the fundamental challenge in the quest for agricultural sustainability is the transformation of the mechanical worldview that all too tragically continues to colonise and dictate the way farming is practised in far too many places across the planet. He is profound in his appreciation that the freedom and willingness to challenge and contextually change mindscapes is both an essential prerequisite and co-requisite for transforming landscapes. Moreover, as he details herein, he himself is a living example of how such an interdependent transformational process can be followed while powerfully expounding on his reasons for, and describing the outcomes of, his motivation for even trying such a systemically daunting task.
