Abstract

Electromagnetic Compatibility and Interference (EMC/EMI) has become more important for people around the globe and we are witnessing how regulations are indeed spreading throughout the world. Today different tests and administrative compliance process exist in different countries, which are leading to a significant duplication of efforts and cost. Australia had started EMC regulation process since 1997, and today most of local manufacturers are familiar with Australian EMC regulation and requirement. However, foreign manufacturers and importers of electrical/electronic product may not be familiar with the compliance scheme. This paper attempts to provide an overview of the Australian EMC regulations and industry Code of Practice. There is a tendency towards regional unity and deregulation around the world and the future development of EMC technology in Australia and worldwide is related to our ability to regulate and educate.
