Abstract

Relationship-based procurement methods have been claimed to be effective in tackling issues in infrastructure development. Previous research on the effectiveness of relationship-based methods was very general or limited towards a specific method. In addition, relevant research is mainly based on overseas construction industries and minimal research on the Australian construction industry. Therefore, a research project is conducted to examine the effectiveness of major types of relationship-based procurement methods in helping tackle issues in infrastructure projects in Australia. The relationship-based procurement methods under study include partnering, alliances, public-private partnerships and joint ventures. In this paper, an extensive literature review and the resultant initial findings are reported.
