Abstract
![CDATA[Religious studies, often referred to as the science of religion (‘Religionswissenschaft’ in German), is the most common international designation for the academic study of religions in university departments. Sometimes religious studies is called a ‘discipline’, but it is often argued that it is better thought of as a field that includes a wide range of academic disciplines that study religion, such as sociology, psychology, geography, economics, history, anthropology, and even physiology and biology. In such cases, these disciplines apply their own methods to the study of religion, creating subdisciplines called the sociology of religion, the psychology of religion, the anthropology of religion, and so on.]]
