Abstract
![CDATA[Renewable energy is the most sustainable form of energy being able to act as a substitute for conventional sources of energy such as petroleum, coal, nuclear and thermal power and so on. In order to reduce the environmental impacts of greenhouse gas emissions, world organizations have proposed some measures to promote the efficient utilization of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) such as solar, wind, bioenergy, hydropower and ocean technology etc. As a major step towards a greener future, most of the countries have agreed to meet a target utilization of renewable energy sources by the year 2020. This paper depicts the technical feasibility of renewable energy sources in reaching those targets, especially for the European Union (EU). The paper sheds light on to various types of RES in the EU, recent developments in renewable energy technology and the proposed methods adopted with the aim of achieving a target of 20 percentage by 2020.]]
