Abstract

The RTP is proud to present a summary of activities throughout 2022-2023, with a spotlight on our Health & Wellbeing and Education & Work themes. The RTP is a support network provided by the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, Enterprise and International, Professor Deborah Sweeney. The program addresses contemporary issues and assists Western Sydney University (Western) academics to gain traction on emerging research areas that will transform how we live and work. At the end of 2022, the team decided to create priority areas wherein all four Themes work together, breaking down the silos and shredding disciplinary borders to progress collaboratively on those big and far-reaching topics. For 2023 and 2024, the two Priority Areas where resources of the program will be pooled are Zero Carbon and Equity and Inclusion. The Research Theme Champions (RTC) have delivered a range of activities in both Priority Areas in 2023. These are detailed throughout the report and include the zero carbon workshop series and a program to shape the future of workplaces with hundreds of participants throughout the year. The activities centred on Zero Carbon and Equity and Inclusion collectively contribute to creating a vibrant and supportive research environment that promotes excellence, collaboration, innovation, and community engagement. Aligned with the University’s commitment in its mission to adhere to the principles of Sustainability, Equity, Transformation, and Connectedness, the Priority Area activities provide structured support connecting industry, government and community partners with researchers to promote knowledge transfer and enhance the real-world impact of the work. The Priority Area activities also progress research committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably:
