Abstract
Book review: Brigitte Louichon's book Romancières Sentimentales offers a fresh outlook on the exclusively female novels produced between the French Revolution and 1825, and sets out to consider them as though a Balzac or a Stendhal had not been born. The first two chapters work well as an introduction to the historical and literary contexts of the sentimental novels.
