SABEL HDR Supervisory Excellence Framework

The SABEL HDR Supervisory Excellence Framework provides an integrated model of supervisory excellence for Higher Degree Research supervision across the Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts, Business, Education and Law at Western Sydney University. Drawing on contemporary scholarship on doctoral education and research supervision, national research training guidance, and established good practice, it synthesises this evidence within SABEL’s distinctive disciplinary and institutional context. The Framework conceptualises HDR supervision as a developmental pedagogical practice centred on the formation of independent researchers and articulates eight principles of supervisory excellence and a five-stage HDR Supervisory Journey describing the evolving pedagogical roles of supervisors across candidature.
