Abstract

Background: Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tubes are commonly placed in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients at risk of malnutrition. However, PEG placement using the ‘pull' technique is complicated by macroscopic and microscopic cutaneous peristomal metastases in 0.5-3% and 9.4%, respectively, leading to a dismal prognosis. Overtube-assisted PEG placement might reduce the risk of cutaneous tumor seeding.
