Abstract
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an influential perspective within educational settings. It has theoretical underpinnings in behavioural psychology, and combines with organisational systems for developing and sustaining prosocial behaviour. It seeks to enhance the quality of life, connectedness to context, and wellbeing of all people, and to support life-long learning outcomes. Educational systems have made significant investments in PBS, and its large-scale adoption across Australia is demonstrated in schools as well as in disability and community service organisations. The data and positive outcomes from implementation illustrate the growth of innovative and distinct practices. The ideas associated with a Multi-Tiered System of Supports have played a crucial role in the implementation story. The authors discuss the PBS implementation experience in Australia, with reflections on society-wide experiences and a specific focus on school educational systems. The strengths and weaknesses of current endeavours are assessed, with implications for policy making and research identified.
