Research Statement
“Scratch Element.” Beyond Words 32 (2022): 35. [Artwork, 10 x 20cm.]Is a material visual artwork - a painting (spray and brush with acrylic and oil paint) on tin, with etchings and burnings on the surface, published in Berlin in the literary and art magazine Beyond Words, which is an international literary publication with its own editorial board and internal review process. It is a work indebted to mid 20th century American modernism but veers away from placeless and (to my mind) sterile abstraction to a form that bears the (literal) traces of physical “assault” and weathering.
