Abstract

Heart, Lung and Circulation was founded 33 years ago in 1991, as The Australasian Journal of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, then expanded its horizons as the Asia Pacific Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in 1994, before joining with cardiology to become The Asia Pacific Heart Journal in 1996, and finally Heart, Lung and Circulation (HLC) in 2000, in recognition of the contributions to the journal from cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and basic cardiovascular science [1]. HLC is not only the flagship journal for the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons (ANZSCTS) but also has an international reach with contributions and readership from around the world.
