Abstract

A new procedure for the selective oxidation of alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes and ketones with potassium permanganate supported on silica gel reagent at room temperature under solvent free conditions by shaking is reported. The present oxidations are completed within 60 min with the yield between 93-98%. Comparing with our more recent work, it is clearly shown that the reaction conditions of the present procedure are much milder.
