Abstract

Introduction/Background
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is crucial in health professional education (HPE) for ensuring comprehensive person-centred care by future health professionals. There are many DEI practice ideas for HPE, yet there are finite time, human and financial resources to apply them all. With the heightened scrutiny on DEI initiatives and pressures to evidence positive impact, it is pertinent to prioritise DEI initiatives in HPE. “Separating the wheat from the chaff” means identifying and prioritising “must do” DEI practices in HPE.

Methods
This PeArLs will use a modified Nominal Group Technique (NGT) to identify and collectively prioritise DEI practices. The PeArLs/NGT question is: “What DEI practices should be prioritised across HPE in Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond?” After a 5-minute presentation of the background and question, participants will share their ideas which will be recorded by a facilitator on Qualtrics (25 minutes). Participants are then given 10 minutes to rank-order the items on the list. The collective ranking will be showed to participants in the last 5 minutes as the conclusion of the session.

Results/Evaluation
By the end of this PeArLs, participants will have contributed to the discussion toward a collective identification and prioritisation of practical DEI activities in HPE. By listening to one another, participants will learn from a wide range of perspectives on DEI practices. Engagement in the PeArLs will be evaluated through the number of participants engaging in item contribution and ranking. The overall session will be evaluated using a brief online survey.

Discussion
The collective ranking will serve dual purposes. For participants, the ranked list can be used as a reference for further reflections and development on their contextual DEI practices. For ANZAHPE, the list and the preceding discussion will inform the ANZAHPE DEI portfolio’s direction including the finalisation of the ANZAHPE DEI Framework draft.
