    Abstract

Sextas sem cestas traces the social-history of the Maccabi Victoria Basketball Association and its members, the Victorian Jewish community who wanted their children to be involved with high-level basketball, but faced hurdles as all matches were to be played during the weekly Shabbat celebration. The chapter question whether these community’s members should be choosing for their family lives or their sports careers, or if Victoria Basketball, under the anti-discrimination laws, should be finding ways to protect both the community believes and their sports involvement.
