Shahab Ahmed and the hermeneutics of Islam

Research output: Chapter in Book / Conference PaperConference Paper

Abstract

![CDATA[What is Islam? is the subtle yet provocative question that Shahab Ahmed posed through the title of his posthumous publication in 2015. What he implied was that if scholarship is certain in its assumptions about Islam, then it is time to think again! And with the subtitle of his book, The importance of being Islamic, he presented his hermeneutics of the study of Islam: the logic of contradiction. In his talk, Dr Milani will discuss the value, as well as some shortfalls, of Ahmed’s contribution to thinking about Islam.]]
