    Abstract

Using qualitative data collected in an experimental jury study, this chapter reports on aspects of realism reflected in deliberations by 12 juries following the live enactment of a trial in which the experience of real jurors was closely simulated, and discusses some of the challenges and benefits of doing experimental research in criminology. We conclude that qualitative research can supplement, and perhaps improve, experiments in justice settings.
